Tsunami Warning Issued for Coastal Areas

Tokyo, Japan - A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 has struck off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, just after 2:00 AM local time. The epicenter was approximately 60 miles east of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, which was damaged by a tsunami following a major earthquake in 2011.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued a tsunami warning for the coastal areas of Fukushima, Miyagi, Ibaraki, and Iwate prefectures. The tsunami is expected to reach the coast within the next hour, with waves up to 3 meters (9 feet) high possible.

Several buildings have been damaged in the earthquake, including a hospital and an office building in Fukushima City. Multiple injuries have been reported, but the exact number is still unknown.

The earthquake has caused power outages in parts of Fukushima and Miyagi prefectures. Emergency services are responding to the situation, and residents in affected areas are advised to evacuate to higher ground and follow instructions from local authorities.
